Anglia Ruskin students battling for funding and support to get bright ideas off the ground
Six teams of entrepreneurial Anglia Ruskin University students are aiming to win a first prize of £10,000 and the chance to market their bright ideas to a wider audience.
The shortlist has been finalised for The Big Pitch 2016 competition run by Anglia Ruskin’s Centre for Enterprise, Development and Research (CEDAR), which encourages students to come up with and create original business ideas and gives them access to the support they need to make them a reality.
Products in the running for the prize include a travel pillow for babies in cars, a pop-up café/theatre, and an application that recreates famous sporting moments in Lego animations.
The competition is open to postgraduate and undergraduate students from all Anglia Ruskin campuses, studying any subject. From the 25 entries that were selected from their one-minute video pitch to attend a three-day “bootcamp” of interactive seminars, the final shortlist was selected by a panel of CEDAR entrepreneurs. The final will take place on 4 May. Up for grabs are prizes of £10k, £5k, £3k. In addition, Carebind and Forgotten spaces, lost faces have also been shortlisted for an additional £3k prize from Provide. Literally Wonderland and an additional project, Package of Hope by Tania Khan, have been shortlisted for the support package being offered to social enterprises by the Future Business Centre, provided by Allia, and so Tania will also present her business idea at The Grand Final. It is the first time these two additional prizes have been on offer.
