Free talk to explore AI's impact on the equine sector

Talk will outline uses of digital technology and AI when working with horses

How will AI and digital technology transform the equine sector? On Wednesday 13 March 2024, Dr Roberta Blake will deliver a free lecture outlining the present (and future) uses of digital technology and AI when working with horses.

Examples of application across the industry by horse owners, trainers, veterinarians and paraprofessionals will be provided alongside the consideration of potential risks and ethical concerns of the development and use of digital technology and artificial intelligence.

Dr Roberta Blake said:

"The recent advances in AI and technology have the capacity to reshape the equine industry, focusing on animal welfare and sustainable equestrianism. Come and have some insight in the emerging areas where AI and technology are most relevant for the industry."

Roberta's work with horses started over 25 years ago as an equine surgeon in Brazil, and has encompassed roles in research, teaching, leadership and general vet practice.

She has been involved in several research projects, in areas as diverse as regenerative medicine using stem cells, to the biomechanical analysis of both horse and rider during sporting endeavours.

Currently, Roberta is Research School Leader and Course Scheme Manager for the MSc Veterinary Physiotherapy and MSc Equine Performance Science. Her teaching is focused on equine biomechanics and sports medicine. She is passionate about use of technology and AI to analyse the complex movements performed by horses.

The lecture takes place from 7-9pm in the Northumberland Lecture Theatre at Writtle College.
