Two-season sponsorship will fund several initiatives to encourage participation

Anglia Ruskin University has partnered with Essex County Cricket Club with the aim of encouraging more women in sport.

Anglia Ruskin has agreed a two-season deal for a significant five-figure sum which will focus on the development of role models within the women’s game, supporting initiatives such as the Regional Women Coaching Conference, girls’ secondary school summer competitions and the Women’s Neon Cricket programme.

The sponsorship deal will also provide support for female apprentices to work in developing the Women and Girls game, and support the running of introduction to scoring and umpiring courses around the region.

Anglia Ruskin will also be the headline sponsor for Essex Cricket’s Ladies Day on 16 July, when Essex will take on Glamorgan in a T20 Blast match.

Martin Beaver, Head of Sport and Active Anglia at Anglia Ruskin University, said:

“Unfortunately, there are still a lot of women who opt not to take part in sport due to barriers such as fear of judgement by others.

“At Anglia Ruskin we are keen to encourage women to be more active. Playing sport has been proven to improve health and energy levels, and also has a number of social benefits. Our sponsorship of Essex Cricket will provide more opportunities for women to get into cricket and we are looking forward to our new partnership.”
