Anglia Ruskin University to host part of popular Cambridge event for the first time

Anglia Ruskin University will host several stalls, performances and hands-on activities at its Cambridge campus as part of this year’s Mill Road Winter Fair on Saturday, 2 December.

Anglia Ruskin is a regular supporter of the popular fair, which sees the usually busy road closed to traffic to allow shoppers to enjoy a host of stalls. This year, for the first time, activities will be taking place on campus, a short walk from Petersfield.

Visitors will be able to pick up a Christmas gift from the festive craft stalls, or take in a variety of events being put on for the whole family to enjoy.

These include a Christmas puppet show by JJ Puppets, being performed at several times during the day. There will also be a talk entitled The View from Mill Road Bridge by Tony Kirby, about the history of Cambridge’s railway infrastructure. This will take place at 11am and 2.30pm.

At noon, it’s time to loosen up and get involved with the demonstration by the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, featuring dances and a ceilidh with audience participation. There will also be a Big Band performance by the Cambridge Groove Orchestra at 1.15pm in the Helmore building.

In between shows people can have their photo taken in our photography studio, or pop in to visit various attractions including an exhibition of the World Illustration Awards, a sustainability photo stall, plus displays from Cambridge Museums and Care Network Cambridgeshire.

Miriam Berg, Public Engagement Officer for Anglia Ruskin University, said:

“We have a long tradition of supporting the Mill Road Winter Fair, which is always a joy to be a part of and really gets people into the Christmas spirit.

“As such, we are only too pleased to be welcoming visitors onto campus and we have some excellent events for them to enjoy. There is lots going on and there will be something for everyone.”
