ARU shortlisted for four national nursing awards

Anglia Ruskin University projects are in line for Student Nursing Times Awards

Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) has been shortlisted in four categories for the Student Nursing Times Awards, which celebrate the best of the next generation of students and educators in the fields of nursing and midwifery.

ARU is the largest provider of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Care students in England, and this year is in the running for Nurse Education Provider of the Year (Pre-registration), Best Student Experience and Teaching Innovation of the Year.

Third-year Midwifery student Vicky Gois, from St Neots, is also nominated for Student Midwife of the Year following glowing testimonies from her tutors and colleagues on her clinical placements.

ARU’s simulated placements for child nursing students, which make use of extended reality scenarios to help students practice their skills in a safe environment, was recognised in the Best Student Experience category.

In 2022, ARU also launched its Samaritans Hub, where students and staff are trained as volunteers, working within a hub at ARU to provide emotional support to people in need. ARU is the first university in the UK to partner with the charity, and the project is a finalist in the Teaching Innovation of the Year category.

Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Health, Education, Medicine and Social Care at ARU, Professor Nigel Harrison, said:

“The events of recent years have underlined the importance of the nursing, midwifery, and allied health professions and at ARU we are delighted to have been recognised in four categories for these awards.

“The nominations show the depth and variety of the projects we are delivering, the benefits of partnership working, and the quality and dedication of our staff and students. We look forward to attending the ceremony in April.”

The winners of the Student Nursing Times Awards will be announced at an awards ceremony at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, London, on Friday, 28 April.
