ARU features strongly in nursing awards shortlist

University and three students nominated for Student Nursing Times Awards
Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) and three of its healthcare students have been named as finalists at the Student Nursing Times Awards 2020.
ARU has been nominated in the category of Nurse Education Provider of the Year (Pre-registration), along with eight other universities from across the UK.
Three ARU students are also finalists following nominations and interviews. Patrick Onyema has made the shortlist for Nursing Associate Trainee of the Year, Hollie Lawrence has been nominated in the category of Student Innovation in Practice award, and Jodie White is a finalist in the Student Midwife of the Year category.
Patrick, who lives in Basildon, is currently a student Nursing Associate working with the Dementia Crisis Support team at North East London NHS Foundation Trust. The 35-year-old, who started his Nursing Associate degree apprenticeship course in January 2019, was named Apprentice of the Year at the Our Health Heroes awards last year.
Third-year Adult Nursing student Hollie, from Clacton-on-Sea, won the 2019 Big Pitch, an ARU competition that gives cash prizes and business pathways to student innovations, for her trauma awareness app.
The app aims to help student nurses on clinical placements access any help they may need after dealing with traumatic situations. It is now on the shortlist for the Student Innovation in Practice Award.
Jodie, 32 and from Mildenhall in Suffolk, has been shortlisted for the Student Midwife of the Year Award. A final-year student, she is chair of the ARU Mindful Midwifery Society, a student ambassador and a student champion. She has achieved consistently high marks throughout her course.
Professor Nigel Harrison, Dean of the Faculty of Health, Medicine, Education and Social Care at ARU, said:
“Our students and staff deserve particular praise, all of whom have shown excellence in their respective fields. They are an inspiration to their peers and we wish them all the very best of luck in the final.”
The ceremony will take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, London, on the afternoon of 24 April.
