Anglia Ruskin University provides gloves, aprons and hand sanitiser to ExcelCare

Anglia Ruskin University has donated several types of personal protective equipment (PPE) to ExcelCare, which has 10 care homes in Cambridgeshire.

The items donated from clinical skills labs in ARU’s Young Street building include gloves, hand sanitiser, aprons and wipes. It comes after the National Care Association raised concerns over a lack of PPE in care homes across the country.

Professor Nigel Harrison, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Health, Education, Medicine and Social Care at ARU, said:

“We were pleased to be able to supply local care homes with vital PPE equipment. It has become clear over recent weeks that this is urgently needed in care homes as well as in the NHS.

“It is important that we support our communities in any way we can during this challenging time.”

ARU has also lent a Tecan robotic laboratory machine to the UK Government’s new labs in Milton Keynes to help increase the country’s testing capacity.

The £130,000 machine (pictured above) is used by ARU to provide a rapid and accurate analysis of saliva for a range of hormones and immune markers.
