Apprenticeship creates new healthcare pathway

Anglia Ruskin University is to train students to become healthcare scientists

Anglia Ruskin University is joining forces with employers to train the next generation of healthcare scientists, who will work at the cutting edge of medicine to research and deliver new treatments.

The Healthcare Science Practitioner (Physiological Sciences) degree apprenticeship, which was launched this week, will allow companies to offer their employees the chance to upskill and receive a degree while they earn.

Around 30 employers from the East of England and beyond attended a launch event at Anglia Ruskin University’s Cambridge campus to find out more about the course, which begins in September.

The three-year course will cover areas such as disease prevention, cardiovascular physiology, principles of anatomy and statistical analysis. Around a third of the course will be spent applying skills and knowledge in practice.

Sue Madden, Deputy Dean for the Faculty of Medical Science at Anglia Ruskin University, said:

“Anglia Ruskin University has a long-established history in healthcare science education and we are delighted to be launching the degree apprenticeship route.

“This marks the next stage in cementing our vision of excellence in the education of the healthcare scientists for the future.”
