Join ARU's Medical Technology Research Centre (MTRC) online for a seminar from Dr Efstathios (Stathis) Giotis (University of Essex) on the molecular basis of pathogenesis.
Efstathios (Stathis) Giotis graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine (Aristotle University, Greece) in 2001, obtained his MSc in Biotechnology in 2002, and completed his PhD in Microbiology in 2006 from Ulster and Illinois State Universities.
Since 2009, he has been engaged in research projects in the UK and internationally, including a tenure at Imperial College (2012-2020). Over the years, he amassed extensive research experience, particularly in the realms of animal infection models and zoonotic viruses. His research consistently focuses on the intersection of human and animal health, employing transcriptomics technologies to address scientific inquiries.
In 2020, he established his own laboratory at the University of Essex, where his current expertise revolves around unravelling the molecular basis of pathogenesis, exploring host range restrictions, and investigating the immunomodulatory capabilities of avian- and bat-borne viruses, with a specific emphasis on influenza and coronaviruses.
