Course content

The OET Total Preparation Course runs part-time over 12 weeks. You'll join us for two three-hour sessions each week.

Teaching takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays in Cambridge, and Tuesdays and Thursdays in Chelmsford. You can choose to take classes in the morning or the afternoon.

On this course you will:

  • develop your reading and writing skills so you can understand and produce accurate medical documents, such as referral letters or notes for colleagues
  • improve your spoken communication for the workplace and develop your confidence when interacting with patients, their families and other medical professionals
  • extend your listening skills so that you can understand, summarise and identify important information, for example listening to a patient consultation or a presentation by a healthcare professional
  • understand the test requirements for the OET test
  • learn test strategies for each paper: reading, writing, speaking and listening
  • recognise typical issues and errors for test takers and how to avoid them
  • improve test performance, eg using language appropriately for varying medical contexts
  • know how to prepare and develop your English language skills outside of the classroom.

During the course, you will work on your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills using real-life language.

Our tutors will give you feedback, and set extra work for you to complete outside the lessons. You'll have access to our online learning materials, University library and computer suites.
