The Occupational English Test is an international language test for healthcare professionals who want to register and work in the UK as nurses, midwives or doctors. Our Exam Focus Course will give you the best chance of passing the exam.
The Occupational English Test is recognised by the UK’s Nursing and Midwifery Council as evidence of language proficiency. It's specially designed for healthcare professionals, reflecting real workplace tasks and relevant language usage and skills. Many people take the test in order to work or study in the UK or other English-speaking countries, such as Dubai, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
If you're planning to work in nursing, study with us for just four weeks to improve your English language skills and understand how to prepare effectively for the test.
If you need further support with your English, as well as preparing for the test, we recommend our 12-week OET Total Preparation course.
This is a part-time evening course, so you can balance study with other commitments. You can choose to study in Cambridge or Chelmsford. Courses run throughout the year with start dates every month. There are two lessons each week (usually Monday and Wednesday evenings in Cambridge; Tuesday and Thursday evenings in Chelmsford). In total, that's 24 hours of classroom tuition, plus opportunities for self-study in your own time.
The OET is a valid and reliable assessment of all four language skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking – with an emphasis on communication in healthcare settings. Overseas-trained nurses and midwives who are required to take an English language test to gain registration with the NMC need to achieve Grade B across all four OET sub-tests.
