Assessment

At the end of our English for University Studies course you will take an IELTS. This is included in your course fee.

If you have applied for an academic course at Anglia Ruskin University or Cambridge Ruskin International College and meet the English language requirements, you will be able to progress directly onto your course.

If you need more support to meet the English language requirements, you may need to do a Pre-sessional English Course. In this case you might be booked on to a Secure English Language Test (SELT). There is no extra charge for this, though please note you will be responsible for covering all transfer costs to the SELT test centre.

How to apply

Complete the English for University Studies application form on this page, and email to lsu@anglia.ac.uk.

You'll also need to send us a copy of your English test. For international students we would recommend that you take an IELTS for entry onto the English for University Studies course. If you're applying from the EU we can accept other English tests; email lsu@anglia.ac.uk for more information.

For the English for University Studies course, you will need to apply for a Short Term Study Visa (previously known as a Student Visitor Visa). If you're planning to continue onto a Pre-sessional course you may wish to apply for a Tier 4 visa.

Entry requirements

You should be aged 18 or over at the start of this course.

The English for University Studies course is suitable for students with a minimum of IELTS 4.0 or above (we would not recommend this course for anyone with an IELTS of more than 6.5). As a general guide we would recommend the longer programmes for applicants with an IELTS range of 4.0-5.0, especially if you are planning to apply for an academic course. The shorter programmes are generally more suitable for applicants of an intermediate level.
