BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying 2014

1. Tell us about yourself.
I'm the founder of ClaimMaster.ai, an AI-powered SaaS platform designed to transform how the construction industry manages claims. I graduated with a BSc (Hons) in quantity surveying and commercial management from ARU (Chelmsford campus). My career has spanned roles with main contractors, consultants, and developers. I’ve always been passionate about finding innovative solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy in the claims process. I’ve also had a great deal of experience in forensic quantum and contract law.

2. What is your fondest memory of ARU?
One of my fondest memories would be the lectures in procurement and tendering delivered by Mark Tree, also design economics, and contract law practice. I was constantly surrounded by peers and mentors who encouraged me to push my boundaries. The diverse range of perspectives helped shape my critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

3. What has been your favourite job?
Founding ClaimMaster.ai has been deeply rewarding as it crystallises my experience in construction science and claims management. By merging my expertise with AI technology, I’ve created a platform that streamlines claims processes, solving real-world problems and improving efficiency across the industry.

4. In one word, how would you describe Writtle?
Transformative.

5. How did your time at ARU help you?
It helped lay a strong foundation in critical thinking and analysis, which has been essential in my work managing complex construction claims and eventually creating a product like ClaimMaster.ai. The ability to approach problems from different angles was nurtured during my time at ARU.

6. What did you love about your chosen course?
I loved the practical application of quantity surveying and commercial management techniques. It wasn’t just theoretical; I was able to see how the knowledge could be applied to real-world scenarios, which eventually inspired me to explore AI solutions for construction claims.

7. What advice would you give to current students as they’re preparing to graduate?
Focus on developing a problem-solving mindset. The ability to adapt and find solutions is a skill that will set you apart in any industry. Also, don’t be afraid to take risks early in your career.

8. What do you know now that you wish you had known whilst studying?
I wish I had understood earlier how rapidly technology would transform traditional industries. If I had realised the potential of AI during my studies, I might have started working on ClaimMaster.ai even sooner.

9. Who was the biggest influence on your career?
It’s hard to pinpoint just one person, but I would say the lecturers, mentors and colleagues I’ve met throughout my career who challenged me to think differently and push boundaries. They instilled the importance of continuous learning and innovation.

10. What advice would you give your younger self?
Believe in your ideas, and don’t be afraid to pursue them, even if they seem unconventional. The path may not always be straightforward, but persistence and innovation pay off.

11. Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know.
Most people don’t know that I originally intended to focus solely on commercial management. It wasn’t until later in my career that I discovered the potential of quantum construction claims and digital solutions like AI to revolutionise the entire claims process.

12. What’s next?
We are focused on expanding ClaimMaster.ai and creating more tools that make AI approachable and indispensable in construction claims management. We're also exploring partnerships with Academia to make the platform accessible for students on a global scale.
