1. Tell us about yourself.
I am an employment lawyer with Kerseys Solicitors. I’ve worked in the industry for nearly 15 years, after completing a law degree at Anglia Ruskin University.
Away from work, I am a family man and I enjoy spending time with my wife, Rachel, and our children. We love to go camping when we can and try to get over to the continent each year for our big trip away. I also like to cycle and to keep fit. I spend as much time as I can on the water, sailing or rowing.
At work, I aim to help people where I can and provide a good service.
2. What is your fondest memory at Anglia Ruskin University?
The ‘Placcy’ bar for sure. Numerous evening of fun ending in a loud (and probably pretty untuneful) sing-along with Frank (Sinatra).
3. What advice would you give to current students as they're preparing to graduate?
Think about what you want to do for the rest of your life and then do it! Don't go and do something because you think you should or because your undergraduate degree leads you down that path. It's a lot easier to change the focus of your career at the start. That said, if you're like me and you want to follow the path opened up by your course, then go for it and keep going until you get there.
4. What do you know now that you wish you had known whilst you were studying?
We all have skills that we don't realise we have. The trick is to find them and make them work for you.
5. How did your time at Anglia Ruskin help you?
In many ways – both socially and academically. Even, and this is coming from the least gifted sportsman, with healthy activity. Oh yes, I learnt how to drink as well.
6. What did you love about your chosen course?
It was the law! I've was interested in the law before I started my degree and my interest was kept alive during it. I also particularly liked the focus on giving us practical skills that would be useful in a legal career.
7. What would you tell someone thinking of studying at ARU?
Do so!
8. In one word how would you describe Anglia Ruskin?
One word is hard, but 'relevant' might do it.
9. Who was the biggest influence on your career?
There isn't one person as a number of people have helped shape it.
10. What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Qualifying as a solicitor and still enjoying my work 15 years later.
11. What advice would you give your younger self?
Work hard and believe. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel - sometimes you just have to work harder to reach it.
12. What drives you?
Helping people and getting paid for it.
13. What’s next?
Much the same as before. I plan to keep working hard and helping businesses and individuals. My work at Kerseys allows me to do that.
