About the network
The Debating Nature's Value (DNV) project has been funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to create a network, drawing together critical thinking and exploring the nuance around "Natural Capital".
We've invited academics, campaigners, ecologists, economists, artists and local business people to contribute to the discussion around safeguarding the natural environment.
The Steering Group
Dr Rupert Read
Principal Investigator
Rupert is a Reader in the school of Politics, Philosophy, Language and Communication Studies at the University of East Anglia, and the Principle Investigator of the DNV project.
Rupert is drawing together a broad network of academics and practitioners to challenge the value of the discourses of 'natural capital' and 'payment for ecosystem services', embracing the perspectives of non-scientists to inform the debate.
Prof Aled Jones
Co-Investigator
Aled is the Director of the Global Sustainability Institute at Anglia Ruskin University and Co-Investigator of the DNV project.
His research primarily focuses on the finance sector and government response to risk and opportunities.
His interest in this project lies partially in exploring the implications for policy, when governmental departments accept the narrative of 'natural capital'.
Prof Victor Anderson
Victor is a Visiting Professor at the Global Sustainability Institute at Anglia Ruskin, and key researcher for the DNV project.
Victor is an highly respected contributor to academic and policy discourse on sustainable development.
His research interests include the interplay of ecology with economics, and he is currently writing a regular blog for The Ecologist.
Felicity Clarke
Felicity is the Institute Manager of the Global Sustainability Institute, and Admin Project Manager for the DNV project.
As an experienced administrator, Felicity supports the network and its membership and coordinates events, such as the Network Workshop (in Norwich, March 2017) and Conference and Art Exhibition (in Cambridge, April 2018).
