Anglia Ruskin University Writtle has 15 acres of informal lawns with naturalised bulbs and wildflowers. Large tree collection, mixed shrubs, herbaceous border, dry/ Mediterranean borders, seasonal bedding and landscaped glasshouses. All gardens have been designed and built by our students studying a wide range of horticultural courses.
Join us for the ARU Writtle Open Gardens Event, part of the National Garden Scheme. Visitors can enjoy a variety of engaging activities, including a guided plant tour that explores key areas of the gardens with a focus on botanical highlights. Additionally, a history tour will delve into the evolution of the University’s grounds, showcasing its planting, architecture, and development since World War II.
For those looking for a hands-on experience, we will be hosting a kokedama workshop. This creative session introduces participants to the traditional Japanese art of crafting moss-covered plant balls, offering a unique and interactive way to connect with nature.
We also hope to be able to hold a plant sale, giving visitors the opportunity to take home a selection of beautiful plants to enjoy.
