At ARU, the Medical Technology Research Centre (MTRC) brings together the leading researchers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects and is the flagship research centre for the University. Here, researchers, industry experts, and academics come together to advance medical science and technology.

The MTRC focuses on pharmaceutical and nutraceutical technologies, drug discovery and delivery, biomechanics, optics, eye research, biomedical informatics, and healthcare management. Teams work on groundbreaking projects, using state-of-the-art facilities to create solutions that enhance patient care and improve healthcare systems.

The MTRC's innovations include:

  • Nanomedicine scaling up technologies bridging innovation and business
  • Breakthroughs in treating fibrosis using novel combinations of repurposed drugs
  • Anti-cancer therapies with innovations in drug delivery using nanotechnologies
  • Leading development in PCR technologies
  • Anti-cataract medications
  • Growth of eye organoids and retinal implants.

The MTRC also carries out important work in data analysis and research which informs clinical decision-making processes, plus consultancy work with developing and established organisations in the community.
