The Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE) will continue its funding of academic appointments this year. The deadline to apply is Monday 11 September 2017.

Senior lecturers or readers in engineering would be eligible to apply for Senior Research Fellowships, and professors would be eligible to apply for a Research Chair. These appointments are made to academics at UK institutions, and will start on 1 March 2018.

Applications are welcome from any engineering discipline. Engineering is defined in its broadest sense, encompassing a wide range of diverse fields, including computer science and materials.

Awards are made for five years, full-time. Applicants will have an industrial sponsor alongside finance from the RAE. This sponsor must be of sufficient standing to support the work for the length of the fellowship, and will help inspire the direction of the academic work. Impact from the work of the Fellow should be applicable to industry as well as to academia at large.

These awards are prestigious and valuable. During the fellowship you would:

  • Establish or enhance a world leading engineering research group
  • Deliver 'use-inspired' research that meets the needs of their industrial partners
  • Publish the results of their research in high quality peer review journals
  • Become a self-sustaining research group by the end of the award (by securing substantial external grant income: RCUK, EU, industry, charities, etc).

All of which would advance your career and reputation, boosting your ARU environment in the process. Let us know if you want to apply.
