Employment after graduating from the university is what we all strive to achieve. My blog is about the employability support available to postgraduate students and how ARU help set us up to achieve this successfully.

As any typical international student, I began applying for part-time jobs once I landed in the UK. I soon realized that I had no clue about the UK CV template, all I had was my CV from back home. After hours Googling, I ended up frustrated. That’s when a friend of mine suggested the ARU Employability Service. They had a template and an online CV builder which helped me create a top-notch CV in minutes.

When I had created my CV, I contacted the Employability Services again and they walked me through the ARU CV360 tool which runs 58 ATS (Applicant Tracker System) checks and scores your CV. They then offered me a one-to-one consultation to tweak my CV to make it perfect. They helped me fit in the right keywords and cover the right areas to successfully pass any potential systems.

I started receiving phone calls for the interview as my new CV was working well and passing through the ATS for most of the jobs I was applying to. Eventually, I got myself an amazing part-time job and I have been working for them for the last 6 months.

ARU has an on-campus recruitment agency called ARU Temps, specialising in temporary and flexible work that appeals to students. I got myself an ambassador role through ARU Temps and have been working as a Digital Ambassador for the past 4 months now, too. I am really glad I picked to study at a university in the UK that had an on-site recruitment agency – I didn’t know how helpful it would be to growing my CV and earning while I learn.

With everything being said, I really do recommend leveraging the services provided by ARU’s Employability Team and ARU Temps. You will get more from your experience, and you will see a positive outcome in any career-related activities you undertake. It worked very well for me, and I am sure it will for you too.
