Hi, my name is Gill Bandaranaike, I am a mature student, I live near Peterborough with my husband.

I have two sons who are both at university, Alex is 21 and studying business at Manchester University and Daniel is 18 and studying sports marketing at Leeds University. My poor husband is tearing his hair out with 3 students to support.

Due to studying, writing assignments and placements I don’t have much time for myself, but when I do get time I like to go to the gym and I spend a lot of time on Facebook and Twitter catching up with friends and family, as well as playing lots of games – Candy Crush being the best one!!

I’m currently doing the adult nursing diploma course which is a three year course and I am now in my third and final year, it has gone so quickly and I really want to make the most of my final year.

I am also a Course Rep for my cohort and have been doing this from my first year – each year I get re-elected by my cohort, which is really exciting and nerve-wracking.  I love being a course rep as you get to meet other students from other years and other fields of nursing, and it is great to hear some of the good and bad things that people experience.

I was recently nominated by a staff member for Course Rep of the Year. The event was held at Duxford Aerodrome in Cambridge and was not only a fantastic setting but I got to meet some really special people – students, lecturers, drama students.  Not only was the evening special but it was made more exciting as I was not only nominated for this award but I WON it too – I was really shocked but proud.

I’m going to miss being a course rep when I qualify but will cherish all the good times and the people I have met forever.

For now I want to enjoy the rest of the time I have left as a student, achieving pass marks in my assignments and placements. Roll on graduation.
