My name is Helen Cann and I’m the Employment Bureau Manager. I manage a team across our campuses who specialise in securing temporary and permanent job opportunities for our students and graduates.
I enjoy several things about my job, but mainly the satisfaction in seeing our students and graduates secure work opportunities allowing them to earn money, learn new skills and build on their confidence. It is incredibly rewarding.
Our great service provides students with the chance to gain transferable employability skills from temporary positions on campus, and in the local community – preparing them for the working world after graduation.
One of my greatest achievements since being at ARU has been completing the MA Student Affairs in Higher Education whilst working full time. I am proud to be one of the first in the UK to embark on this course and am looking forward to completing my final module.
If I could give people one piece of advice, it would be to grab every opportunity that comes your way: you never know what you may learn or the opportunities it may bring.
I feel really lucky to work with great colleagues at ARU, several of whom have become firm friends.
