Course: Accelerated BA (Hons) Primary Education Studies

Hi, I'm John, and I'm the Course Leader for the Accelerated BA (Hons) Primary Education Studies degree in Cambridge.

I have more than 17 years’ experience working in schools in the UK and Egypt. During my career, I have taught across the entire primary range, but have spent most of my career teaching reception children. I have also been an Assistant Head Teacher and have lots of experience developing computing in schools. I passionately believe in providing the best quality education for children through a highly trained workforce. Helping undergraduate students to prepare for initial teacher education is an extremely important step in this journey. Teaching is an important, varied and enjoyable career to pursue.

The Accelerated Primary Education Studies course will help to prepare you on your journey towards being a teacher; you’ll learn how to engage critically with educational theory and policy, the most effective pedagogies with which to support children of a range of needs and abilities, and you’ll explore a range of subject knowledge across English, mathematics, science and technology. All of this will be applied directly to supporting you as a teacher in the primary classroom. This will mean that when you move into initial teacher education you’ll have an excellent, solid base from which to develop your own teaching practice and to ultimately become an outstanding teacher yourself.

I hope you enjoy reading my blog posts about the course.
