Funding opportunity: NIHR Global Health Research

Category: Calls

5 December 2016

The following groups are eligible for the current round of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Global Health Research funding.

  • NIHR Global Health Research Units: universities and research institutes with an existing track record of delivering internationally recognised research who wish to consolidate and expand this work.
  • NIHR Global Health Research Groups: existing specialist academic groups who wish to expand into the field of global health, especially in shortage areas of research.

£60m is available in this call, aimed at universities and institutes wishing to contribute to global health issues, either growing their existing portfolio or creating a portfolio from scratch. Underfunded research areas are of special interest in this call, which may include diverse topics such as mental health, smoking, economic aspects of health, and surgery - but research must deliver benefit to low and middle income countries (LMICs).

Established NIHR Global Health Research Units are eligible for awards of up to £7m, with groups seeking to expand into global health eligible for up to £2m.

A webinar will be held on 8 December, 2.30-4.30pm, to answer any questions you may have about the call.

Funding deadline: 26 January 2017, 1pm.
