Application tips

The Faculty of Arts, Humanities, Education and Social Sciences offers research degrees covering a wide range of areas. We also offer a Professional Doctorate in Practical Theology.

Research projects

We have a number of exciting research project opportunities where we especially welcome applications. These are projects identified by our staff reflecting their research expertise. They offer a wide range of opportunities for applicants to develop their own project. Some projects are more specific.

These projects are mostly self-funded and are open to students on a part-time or full-time basis.

If you already have a research proposal in mind

Whether or not your idea fits under the project areas identified on the research project opportunity pages, you are strongly advised to contact our Faculty Research Co-ordinator at [email protected]

We will be able to support you in contacting the research team, potential supervisors or the appropriate academic School Research Co-Ordinator to help you take your project forward. We can also advise on the application process.

If you want to approach an academic about your idea or a research project

Please feel free to contact the relevant academic member of staff directly by email. Colleagues welcome enquiries. You should also contact us at [email protected] to advise her of your interest.

Once you have decided that you wish to apply, you should follow the formal application process.

Research studentships

From time-to-time we offer funded research studentships which are advertised. These include the annual Vice Chancellor's PhD Scholarships and other postgraduate studentships.
