Engaging all students together in productive learning opportunities can be exciting and rewarding. This session focuses on how to achieve this using some of the advanced features available in Teams. Knowing how to use ‘the backchannel’ can ensure both in class and online students are kept engaged and responsive through simple chat-based activities. The use of breakout spaces allows students to deepen their engagement, for example by solving problems together. Collaborative writing and other techniques for the co-creation of knowledge can help to establish motivating research-informed active learning. The session focuses on how to set such techniques up.

Session will include:

  • The ‘backchannel’ – includes how to use chat activities
  • Breakouts – includes using breakout rooms and/or channels for activities and groups
  • Collaborative writing– includes active learning techniques and benefits of collaborating in Word, PowerPoint and other MS365 applications

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Use the key engagement tools in Teams
  • Create environments for engaging groups of learners, whether co-located on campus or accessing the class online

Opportunities for interaction will include:

  • Trying the techniques
  • Clarifying how techniques can work in specific situations
