Welcome to the November 2017 Update of what's happening in learning, teaching and assessment.

We’re hosting two TeachMeets focused on Active Learning in January (one in Chelmsford on 25 January and one in Cambridge on 26 January). If you’d like to share your active learning practices in a nano (2 minutes) or micro (7 minutes) presentation, please submit your proposal. The UK government has published a white paper on Industrial Strategy: building a Britain fit for the future. It sets out a long-term plan to boost the productivity and earning power of people throughout the UK.

Funding bodies confirm shape of REF 2012

The UK higher education funding bodies have made the final decisions on the operation of the next Research Excellence Framework process, REF2021. The publication Decisions on staff and outputs, together with the ‘Initial decisions on the Research Excellence Framework 2021’ published in September 2017, sets out the broad framework for REF 2021 following the independent review of the REF in 2016, led by Lord Stern. 

Teaching excellence: the student perspective

The report Teaching excellence: the student perspective has been commissioned by a consortium of students’ unions. It analysess what students across the UK think of the Teaching Excellence Framework and of ‘teaching excellence’.
