Welcome to the April 2018 Update of what's happening in learning, teaching and assessment.

Join Dr Paul McDermott of University of East Anglia at June’s Talking about teaching seminar “A methodology that makes self-assessment an implicit part of the answering process” on Thursday 28 June. Paul will introduce a format for multiple choice questions (MCQ), implicit in which are measures of student confidence. The event will start at 12pm with lunch and Paul will give his seminar at 12.30pm.

The Office for Students is now up and running.

The Office for Students is the new independent regulator for higher education in England. HEFCE has ceased operations and has been superseded by the Office for Students. HEFCE’s work relating to research and knowledge exchange will transfer to Research England, a new body within UK Research and Innovation. For future updates on Research England’s work, sign up to the newly created list, RESEARCH-ENGLAND-NEWS.
The Office for Students also produce a monthly update that you can subscribe to.

UK Standing Committee for Quality Assessment publishes new Quality Code Expectations and practices

The UK Standing Committee for Quality Assessment (UKSCQA) has published new Expectations and practices for the UK Quality Code for Higher Education with the support of its partners from across the sector, including HEFCE.

The revised Expectations and practices of the Code respond to an extensive consultation across the UK higher education sector, which was co-ordinated by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) on behalf of all members of the UKSCQA.

Digifest 2018 will take place across the week beginning 10 September, the two main days will be held on the 13th in Chelmsford and 14th in Cambridge with a keynote from Learning Innovations consultant, Steve Wheeler. Our Vice Chancellor will also be joining us to talk about our new Digital Strategy.
For the first time we'll also be running workshops on both campuses focusing on the use of a range of learning technologies as well as showcasing Canvas teaching innovations.
