ARU Students’ Union is always advertising for student staff jobs, whether it’s working the bar, in the SU shop, or in the office - and it’s really convenient if you want to fit in your work around your studies.
I already had some marketing experience behind me when I applied for my job with the SU, and when I saw the position for Communications and Marketing Assistant advertised, I was super excited to apply. I went for the interview, and a few days later I found out I was successful – yay!
So I work one day a week, for seven hours. I am primarily based in the SU office, and I do things like update the website, write new content, complete design briefs for our lovely Graphic Designer, and generally assist the Communications Team wherever I can.
You’ll find that most of the news articles and quizzes on the SU website were created by yours truly. This is great experience for me, as I hope to go into content marketing and communications when I graduate.
I love working at the Students’ Union. It works really well around my degree, so I don’t need to worry about ever missing any lectures. They’re also super flexible, so if I ever need to change my hours they always try to help where they can. And most importantly, they are such a great group of people to work with – I’ve learned so much from this position already!
I would encourage anyone looking for a job to look at what the SU are advertising for. You might just find the perfect job for you as a student.
