ARU Winter Cabaret: A Celebration of Broadway

In February 2018, two final year BA (Hons) Performing Arts students worked with their cast and crew to put on a production in celebration of musical theatre.

The cast included students from across the university, coming from courses such as History, Music and English Literature to name a few. In this regard, the production not only celebrated the sound of musical theatre, but how it brings people together.

The cast and crew put together the show in only four weeks before it was performed at the Mumford Theatre, in front of a live public audience. The organisers decided that the show would be a prime opportunity to raise money for a good cause, and so had a collection for Acting Now, a Cambridge-based charity. The show was a success and raised over £300 for Acting Now.

Highlights included an all-male Cell Block Tango (Chicago), Smash (NBC’s Smash) and songs from composers such as Stephan Schwartz, Sara Bareilles, Kander & Ebb and Stephen Sondheim.
