ARU donates PPE to Care Homes in Cambridgeshire

ARU have donated gloves, aprons, and hand sanitiser to care homes across Cambridgeshire.

Excel Care, who have ten care homes in Cambridgeshire, have this week received Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including gloves, aprons and hand sanitiser, donated from clinical skills labs in ARU’s Young Street building. The donation has been made after the National Care Association raised concerns over a lack of PPE in care homes.

Professor Nigel Harrison, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Health, Education, Medicine and Social Care and ARU, said:

“We were pleased to be able to supply local care homes with vital PPE equipment. It has become clear over recent weeks that this is urgently needed in care homes as well as in the NHS.

“It is important that we support our communities in any way we can during this challenging time.”

ARU has also lent a Tecan robotic laboratory machine to the UK government’s labs in Milton Keynes in order to help increase the country’s COVID-19 testing capacity. The £130, 000 machine provides rapid and accurate analysis of saliva for a range of hormones and immune markers.
