Networking leads to innovative idea

Arise Innovation Hub occupants A3d Laser Solutions and Lizard Design join forces to create new venture, 4D Lizard.

Specialising in the oil and gas industry, A3D Laser Solutions uses 3D scanning technology mapping to analyse, model and document its client’s sites. More recently the team has launched a new project, 4D Lizard, thanks directly to a connection made at Arise. 

Colin Pitman, the firm’s commercial director, said:  

“We realised there wasn’t anything out there aimed at engineering asset management. Arise has been a fantastic place to meet new contacts. When I met Lee Springthorpe, director of a software development company, we got talking, I ran him through the details of our business and that resulted in 4D Lizard being set up as a joint venture with his company, Lizard Design.

Without this centre and all the help, the team have given us, we wouldn’t be where we are today, it fits very well with who we are as a company and what we’re trying to achieve,” he says. “We have pizza lunches once a month with presentations from various speakers, and that’s been really invaluable to us because you’re networking with different companies, from a range of sectors but they all share the same ambitious mindset. It’s been a great launchpad for us.” 

Colin is in no doubt that being based at Arise Chelmsford has been beneficial to his company, which has been boosted significantly by investment from Dutch tank storage specialist Royal Vopak.

It’s been a great launchpad for us.”
