Social Worker Integrated Degree Apprenticeship: investing in future social workers

ARU’s apprenticeship programme provides your authority with the opportunity to develop your Social Work provision, either by:

  1. supporting the progression and retention of existing employees who are currently working with social work and family support teams who are looking for career progression and higher responsibilities, or;
  2. attracting new recruits to expanding social work teams.

Our programme is aligned to both the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours of the Apprenticeship Standard, and to the Professional Standards of Proficiency with Social Work England. It supports the development of social work skills across a wide range of settings, including services for adults, children and families, and mental health.

As apprentices study alongside work, they will be putting their learning into practice immediately for the positive benefit of service users. Practice Learning is integral to the programme, achieved by the academic and practice components running in parallel to each other, enhanced by the involvement of practitioners, service users and employers.

While undertaking their job, the apprentices study the BA (Hons) Social Work through our online Learning Management System (LMS), which is accessible across a variety of platforms and devices for maximum flexibility, and attend a series of face-to-face teaching sessions within each module.

The local authorities of Essex, Southend and Thurrock have a long established positive working partnership with each other and with ARU. This partnership has enabled us to raise standards and deliver high quality support to social work students and social workers throughout their careers. As we embark on the latest chapter in our working relationships we again have the opportunity to work together and build relationships to create the best possible experience for our apprentices. We are very excited to see how this programme develops.
