I'm Kaja and I studied MSc Animal Behaviour Applications for Conservation at ARU. I now work as a key scientific coordinator reintroducing European bison (Bison bonasus) to the Rothaar Mountains in Germany.
It’s an amazing role that involves management of in-situ as well as ex-situ bison herds; conducting research on ethology, ecology, and many other different levels; participating international conferences; coping with human-wildlife-conflicts; some days getting dirty in the woods and some days getting suited up for local political meetings or for PR.
During the Masters at ARU I developed skills such as giving professional presentations, which now helps me immensely during my public speeches; critical evaluation of scientific papers, which I am reading in order to gather reliable information or to write an article myself; using wildlife tourism as a tool for conservation; and many more...
