STEM Scholarship

Our STEM Scholarship is designed to support students interested in a career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) – fields where there is a recognised skills shortage.

You’ll be eligible if you meet the entry requirements of your chosen course, whether it’s undergraduate or postgraduate.




You’ll receive the full amount in your first year. Payments are made via BACS to a UK bank account at two points in the year, depending upon continued satisfactory academic progress.

Please note that if you change course and move to a non-STEM subject, your scholarship will be withdrawn.

Applicants for our MBChB Medicine are not eligible to apply.

Foundation, extended, degree apprenticeship, distance learning degree programmes and/or CPD and short courses are also excluded.

As well as your academic achievements, we will be assessing:

  • your extra-curricular activities and achievements, for example in the areas of leadership, community service, volunteering or sport
  • your experience; personal or financial hardship.

How we assess your application

Your application will be assessed by a panel of ARU staff and representatives from the Students’ Union. You’ll be ranked based on the details you provide in your application and supporting documentation; we may also invite you to an interview to talk about your application.
