Cenk has played a pivotal role in what has been the most successful year in the history of ARU’s American Football team.

This season the American Football team have achieved an unprecedented and truly outstanding improvement. One of the key factors underpinning the team’s remarkable achievements this year has been in their defensive strength. With Cenk as the defensive captain, he has commanded a defensive strategy that has shut out 50% of this year’s opponents and he has led the team in the number of interceptions. His performances this year have also pushed Cenk to trial for the University GB Team.

Cenk has been described as having an incredible mind for American Football and of being a true student of the game. With this knowledge he has combined a willingness to develop not only his own game, but to assist with the development of his teammates, by delivering 1:1 training sessions.

The team train weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays with an additional session most Sundays. As a commuting student, Cenk has shown extraordinary commitment, dedication and passion, attending every single one as well as playing in every match this season.

All of this has been achieved in what has, for personal reasons, been a difficult year for Cenk. Both on and off the field, Cenk has been a key figure and inspirational leader, exhibiting extreme strength of character whilst experiencing personal hardship. It is this drive, passion and dedication that also led his peers to vote Cenk as this year’s Challenge Cup Captain.

As part of a great team performance this season, Cenk has shown incredible individual character which epitomises the values of sport at Anglia Ruskin University.
