Carin Svensen – Tennis

Winner: Carin Svensen - BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science

Over the three years Carin has been at Anglia Ruskin University she has been a tennis player, a tennis coach, a tennis club committee member, a tennis ambassador and a Sports Activator.

Since her election as Tennis Club President at the end of her first year, Carin has led the way, approaching students, promoting sessions and encouraging others to get involved – this resulted in a membership record of over 60 members including a large increase in female members.

In Carin’s final year she took on the role of Women’s Captain, driving her team up and down the country to compete in BUCS matches. Carin played every match, leading the team from the front to a successful season.

Her enthusiasm for the game is infectious and this year Carin took on coaching duties for non-BUCS players. She has also organised involvement in a regional LTA Team Challenge for these players to support their development and engagement in the club.

Carin has also been a Tennis Ambassador and Sports Activator, providing fun and relaxed tennis sessions for students and staff who are new to the game. One of her key attributes is talking and listening to students, being able to guide them to the information they require. She has promoted sport to potential students at Open Days and to staff and current students at various events on campus throughout the years.

A truly deserved winner of this year’s Doug Cosnett award.
