Following the decision to withdraw our women's basketball team from the 2020-21 national league competition, we have agreed for Spanish point guard Noa Sanchez Marques to transfer to Unilever Viladecans for the remainder of the season.
Viladecans compete in the well-respected Liga Feminina 2 (LF2) in Spain and are currently 5th in Group C, with a 12-10 record.
Sanchez arrived at ARU in September 2019 to study BSc (Hons) Psychology following a progressive and successful two-year period with JMA Basketball Academy and the Reading Rockets. The Barcelona native has impressed during her first two years, showing great promise and ability for the future.
Sanchez commented on the signing, "I'm so happy to be back home and grateful for the opportunity to play with Unilever Viladecans for the remainder of the season. I have always aspired to play in this league because LF2 has some great players and coaches, so I'm happy this has become possible during this year."
Head Coach Jacob Lloyd has been impressed by Sanchez during his first season with ARU Basketball. He said: "Everyone at ARU is so pleased for Noa. She has worked so hard for this type of opportunity, and is constantly looking to develop herself each time she steps on the court. Her humility and willingness to learn are just some of her many attributes, and these skills are going to benefit her in the environment she’s stepping into."
"She has a major opportunity to learn and develop, and I’m looking forward to her bringing that back to our team next season. We all are looking forward to following her development closely at Viladecans.”
ARU retain their position within the WNBL Division One Basketball England competition for the 2021-22 season and continue to plan for their return to the court in the near future.
