Every Saturday morning Anna Luff, who works at Anglia Ruskin, does a 5km run alongside hundreds of other people at the Great Notley Parkrun. However, her run this weekend will mark a very special milestone.
She will become an exclusive member of the ‘250 club’ which honours people that have completed 250 pParkruns. Whilst there are over two million parkrunners around the world, only a small handful of people have reached the landmark number.
Anna’s run on 16 December will also make her become the first member of Ruskin’s 25 Club.
To mark the 25th anniversary of university status, Anglia Ruskin launched a parkrun scheme for students and staff where the aim is complete 25 parkruns in a year.
To motivate you along your journey, you can claim a free celebratory dri-fit t-shirt after you do 10 runs to wear with pride on Saturday mornings.
“I really like running because it’s fun to be outdoors. I always seem to feel good about the day after and I’ve met loads of nice people through running,” Anna said. “The 25 t-shirt is very snazzy – I’d highly recommend it!”
There are currently over 20 parkruns in Essex including one at Chelmsford Central Park which gets a regular turnout of over 500 people each week.
“Parkrun has really boomed since I started going. When I first started there were hardly any parkruns in Essex and there’s loads of them now,” Anna said. “It’s super welcoming and there’s a really low barrier to entry – you just need to turn up with your barcode. It’s for everyone whether you’re really fast to absolute beginners.”
As well as joining the two clubs, 16 December is also Anna’s birthday.
“It should be good fun. I’ve got lots of friends coming along to celebrate my birthday and the milestone run so there should be a lot of cake!” she said.
Anna first started running around five years ago after being inspired by her sister who signed up to run the Edinburgh Marathon for the British Heart Foundation.
Anna is now a member of the Springfield Striders running club and attends the Campus Sport women’s jogging group on Tuesday evenings.
She is currently working towards the Cambridge Half Marathon as part of the Anglia Ruskin team and also likes to do the triathlon.
“After doing the couch to 5k programme with my sister, I was at a bit of a loose end at what to do so I joined the Springfield Striders running club,” Anna said. “I went and did their beginner’s course and eventually I went along to the main club and since then I’ve got into a good habit. I’m trying to improve my times, keep having fun and I’m really looking forward to the Cambridge Half Marathon. I also go out on Tuesday evenings with the women’s jogging group who are a lovely bunch of people.”
Well done to Anna on her achievement and happy birthday!
