Sean is Principal Lecturer in Music and Deputy Head of Department (Music), and teaches across the music provision.
Sean has written a number of well received studies in popular music, and has a particular interest in electronic music, punk, post-punk and indie and the intersection of experimental popular music with the 20th century avant-garde. He has co-edited and contributed studies to two books on central figures in the field of electronic music - Kraftwerk: Music Non Stop (Continuum 2011) and Brian Eno: Oblique Music (Bloomsbury 2016). He is currently co-editing another collection on The Velvet Underground.
Sean is an International Board Member and contributor to the Bloomsbury Encyclopedia of Popular Music of the World, and Journal Advisory Board Member for Dancecult: Journal of Electronic Dance Music Culture. He has taught music technology, popular music studies and media and cultural studies since the early 1990s, working at the University of Plymouth and Southampton Solent University before joining Anglia Ruskin University. His practice as research PhD, Sounds of Future Past: the Poetics of Electronica, examined creative electronic music practices in the liminal space between academic and popular electronic musics.
