If you're taking part in an exchange programme, you'll typically study abroad for a trimester during your second year. But we recommend that you start planning early in your first term at ARU.

Making your application

Once you've decided on a provisional destination, simply complete an ARU Global application form.

Study abroad applications will be due as follows for all Erasmus+ and international exchange opportunities the following year:

  • If you are a September intake student: at the beginning of your second trimester of your first year.
  • If you are a January intake student: at the beginning of your second year (an exception to this is for LLB Law January starters, who need to apply by the study abroad deadlines in their first semester at ARU).

Our main study abroad application deadlines for 2021-22 have now passed. However, we have a final round of applications, where students have a further opportunity to apply to study abroad at remaining places. The deadline for applications is 11 March 2022.

Therefore, if you started at ARU in January 2021 or September 2021, or started your LLB Law course in January 2022, you can apply for our final round of applications by the above deadline.

There are a limited number of places available at each of our Erasmus+ and international exchange partners. Depending on the number of applications received for each partner, it may be a competitive selection process, but we encourage all students to apply.

If you started any other course in January 2022, you will need to apply by 31 January 2023.

To be eligible it is vital that you maintain good academic standing; specific requirements vary by university partner. All students will be notified of the outcome of their application, whether successful or not, by mid April for students applying by the final deadline of 11 March 2022. You may be offered a place on the waiting list for your selected partner university, or you may be provided with study options at alternate partners depending on availability.

The deadline for the final round of applications (for a trimester abroad in 2022/23) is 11 March 2022. If your application is successful, you'll need to do the following:

  1. Accept your nomination place.
  2. Attend ARU Global pre-departure briefings to learn about the next steps required for your application and valuable tips for studying abroad.
  3. Complete your host university application.
  4. Complete and sign the required documentation as requested by ARU Global and your host university before you depart.
  5. Pack your bags and depart for your life-changing experience abroad.
