Hi. My name is David Jay and I work as a Language Skills Tutor and Teacher Trainer in the Anglia Ruskin University Language Centre. I guess I’ve always been inspired by communication, in various forms. My first degree was in modern languages, and I subsequently trained to teach English using communicative methods. Those methods continue to inform my practice as a trainer of new teachers. At ARU I’ve also taught on degree modules in sociolinguistics, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. Combining these areas of experience, I’ve recently been looking at how communicative techniques can be applied to subject teaching in higher education. My other interests include classroom management and analysing spoken discourse. In my spare time, I enjoy listening to opera, playing tennis, and singing in the Cambridge Rock Choir.
